Fun Facts About 1950s Pontiac Cars
1. The 1957 Pontiac Bonneville was seriously rare. Pontiac introduced the Bonneville as a high-performance convertible in 1957, and only 630 were produced that first year. Every one came with Pontiac’s new fuel-injected V-8, making it one of the most exclusive Pontiacs of the decade.
2. 1955 was the year Pontiac got serious about V-8 power. Pontiac replaced its old straight-six and straight-eight engines with the new Strato-Streak V-8 for 1955. The change helped transform Pontiac’s image from a fairly conservative GM division into a brand with considerably more performance appeal.
3. Pontiac offered some surprisingly fancy features in the 1950s. By 1954, Pontiac buyers could add features such as power brakes, power windows, and air conditioning. The 1954 models are particularly notable for having an early modern-style factory air-conditioning system with controls integrated into the dashboard.
