Welcome to The Emenee Ukulele Craze
Very popular in the 1950s, thanks to Arthur Godfrey’s endorsement, was Emenee’s “Flamingo” Ukulele.
The Emenee Ukuele came with a button operated chord device that straps over the neck of the ukulele. You could play chords by simply pushing the buttons. This allowed you to actually play songs to your friends amazement and your parents chagrin (although actually playing something with the buttons was better than the noise you made while trying to play without the buttons attached).
These Ukes were made of plastic and were inexpensive so they were a favorite for parents to test out their child’s musical abilities before investing in real instruments.
All being said however they sounded pretty darn good and could provide terrific family entertainment while everyone sang along to classics like “The Ballad of Davy Crockett” or “She’ll be Comin’ Round the Mountain”
