NHL goalie Jacques Plante is the first to wear a hockey mask. Amazingly, this was not widely accepted and it wasn’t until 1973, that the last goalie played unmasked.

LA Dodgers beat Chicago White Sox, 4 games to 2 in 56th World Series. This is the first time the White Sox have taken their first pennant since the “Black Sox” scandal of 1919. It is also the first time a World Series game played west of St Louis

The American Football League (AFL) is formed with eight teams. In 1966 it mergered with the NFL. The Eight – New York Titans (later the Jets), Dallas Texans (later the KC Chiefs), Los Angeles Charges (later San Diego), Boston Patriots (later New England), Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, Houston Oilers and the Oakland Raiders.
